Fremont Elementary in Battle Creek may soon reopen

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — A shuttered elementary school in Battle Creek may soon be revived.

Battle Creek Public Schools says with board approval, Fremont Elementary will open next fall as a new magnet school for pre-kindergarten through second grade.

Approximately 180 students will be accepted during the school’s first year. The districts plans call for adding another grade very year through 2022, so it will eventually house pre-K through fifth grade.

The district says the new Fremont Elementary Magnet School’s curriculum will be based on the International Baccalaureate model.

Fremont Elementary School closed in the summer of 2016 as part of a district reorganization plan, the Battle Creek Enquirer reports.

Battle Creek Public Schools will hold two information sessions about the reopened school on Jan. 21 at Battle Creek Central High School’s McQuiston Center. The sessions are scheduled for 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Interested families can also sign up on Battle Creek Public Schools' website for more information and enrollment updates.
