Sand Lake village council ousts police chief

SAND LAKE, Mich. (WOOD) — Sand Lake’s police chief is off the job.

Village staff say in a special meeting Monday night, the village council voted to fire Sand Lake Police Chief James Reamsma. However, Reamsma was still listed as the police chief on the village websiteearly Tuesday afternoon.

A village employee told 24 Hour News 8 Reamsma had suffered a non-work related injury and could no longer carry out his job duties. The employee wouldn't elaborate on Reamsma's condition.

Sand Lake expects to begin the search for Reamsma’s replacement in the near future.
