Missing man's empty car found at Ottawa Co. resort

PARK TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Ottawa County sheriff’s deputies are asking for the community’s help in finding a Park Township man who hasn’t been seen in more than a week.

The parents of 25-year-old Demetrius Dushun McKnight Jr. say they last saw him around 5 p.m. Oct. 19.

The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office says McKnight's maroon 2011 Chevrolet Malibu was discovered in the parking lot of Lake Ranch Resort at 2226 Ottawa Beach Road in Park Township.

"Was somebody chasing him?" him mom Angelia McKnight wondered Monday. "We saw the beach up the road. Did he drive through there quickly and he was trying to get away from something? We don't know if someone took it there."

His mom said he has no connection to the resort.

"He does have a few friends in Holland, but no reason for his car to be where they found it," she said.

Sheriff's office Capt. Mark Bennett said a resort employee called authorities after noticing the car's windows were down and that the vehicle hadn't moved for a few days. The keys are missing and detectives found McKnight's sweatshirt and coat in the back.
