New urban Meijer has surprising prices

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Wednesday marked the grand opening for the Bridge Street Market on Grand Rapids’ west side.

The Meijer store, located at 613 Bridge Street NW, is a new kind of store for Meijer and for the area near downtown Grand Rapids, serving a different clientele and a different purpose.

This is something city dwellers in the city have been wanting for a long time: the convenience of a Meijer store within walking distance from their home.

The store is smaller by design, 38,000 square feet compared to Meijer’s usual 200,000-square-foot footprint.

“So we’ve shrunk down the size of the store and created a local grocery store that we can put in an urban environment where you can do your full grocery shopping,” said Rick Keyes. President and CEO of Meijer, who came out for the opening of the store that marks a new venture for Meijer in urban markets.
