This week's Good GMC Professional Grade Student Athlete of the Week Award goes to Tara Bouma. Tara was Jenison High School's top water polo scorer this year despite an injury. She received a scholarship to play next year at Mercyhurst College in Erie Pennsylvania. Congratulations to Tara Bouma, our Good GMC Professional Grade Student Athlete of the Week.

This week's Good GMC Professional Grade Student Athlete of the Week Award goes to Robert Banaszak. Robert was Rockford's 2007 qarterback and will play for Ferris State University next fall on a scholarship. He's one of only two 2007 West Michigan QBs offered to compete at the college level. Congratulations to Robert Banaszak, our Good GMC Professional Grade Student Athlete of the Week.

This week's Good GMC Professional Grade Student Athlete of the Week Award goes to Kirk Deering. Kirk is baseball and football player from West Catholic High who has just won the last ever City League Baseball Championship as an undefeated starting pitcher. He'll be playing football on a scholarship next fall at Saginaw Valley State University. Congratulations to Kirk Deering, our Good GMC Professional Grade Student Athlete of the Week.

Rebecca is a senior at Jenison High School, plays first singles for their tennis team and has a scholarship to play tennis at Spring Arbor University in the fall. This week's Good GMC Professional Grade Student Athlete of the Week Award goes to Steven Scoby. Steven is a senior at Delton Kellogg High School, was captain of his football team for two years and is now the captain of the baseball team. He's an exemplary scholar, an upstanding citizen, and will be playing baseball next year for Valparaiso University majoring in chemistry. This week's Good GMC Professional Grade Student Athlete of the Week Award goes to Emily Larson. Emily is a senior at Mona Shores High School in Muskegon and plays in the first singles slot on their tennis team. This year she won the Greater Muskegon Area Athletic tennis tournament. She's a member of the National Honor Society and will attend GVSU next year. Congratulations to Emily Larson, our Good GMC Professional Grade Student Athlete of the Week.

This week's Good GMC Professional Grade Student Athlete of the Week Award goes to Conor Lane. Conor is a junior at City High School, carries a 4.0 academic grade point average, and has been a competitive Irish step dancer since he was six. He has appeared on stage all over the country and has so many ribbons and trophies mom and dad may have to move! This week's Good GMC Professional Grade Student Athlete of the Week Award goes to Mike Smith. Mike is a senior at Jenison High School and is the captain of his wrestling team. He received an Academic All State Award for football too. Mike has been accepted at the United States Air Force Academy and hopes to become a fighter pilot. Kelly is a senior at Ionia and has just been given the honor of being named Michigan's Miss Basketball. Next year she'll be bringing her skills to Notre Dame where she's been accepted to the school and team. Congratulations to Kellie Watson, our Good GMC Professional Grade Student Athlete of the Week.

This week's Good GMC Professional Grade Student Athlete of the Week Award goes to Nick Hench. Nich is a freshman at Hudsonville and runs cross country and plays basketball. This week's Good GMC Professional Grade Student Athlete of the Week Award goes to Adam Schwark. Adam is a sophomore and baseball player at Forrest Hills. He always gets A's and has participated in baseball tournaments in Iowa, Ohio and all over Michigan. Adam is an outstanding pitcher and infielder as well. This week's Good GMC Professional Grade Student Athlete of the Week Award goes to Elvis Lane Jr. He's a tennis player and senior at Grandville High School. He played in the number 2 singles spot, finished number two in the conference, and went on to play at Regionals and State. He's been offered a scholarship to play for Bethany College and hopes to become an Elementary School Teacher when he graduates. This week's Good GMC Professional Grade Student Athlete of the Week Award goes to Taylor Hutson of Rockford High School Taylor is a member of the Rams' swim team...she puts-in over 40-thousand yards of practice each week, and still carries a 4.2 grade point average with three Advance Placement classes. Kevin plays football and basketball for the Eagles...runs track, too...all while carrying a grade point average just under 4.0. He's a member of his high school orchestra, too. Phillip is a senior running back for the Bengals...he's approaching 4,000 yards for his career. He's being recruited by Division I schools, and he carries a 3.3 grade point average. Scott is a senior, and he's battled through some serious health challenges to play basketball and tennis for the Bulldogs...and he coaches youth basketball, too. Heidi is a sophomore pitcher for the Wildcats softball team, and this summer helped her travel-team make the National Tournament in South Carolina. After a summer with her travel-team, the Grand Rapids Blaze, she's rated as one of the top 100 seniors in the country. Jordan is going into her junior year, and she was recently named the Most Outstanding Player at the USA Volleyball Junior Olympic National Tournament in Minneapolis, helping her team to the tourney championship. This week's Good GMC Professional Grade Student Athlete of the Week Award goes to Krysten Bandstra from Wyoming Rogers High School, now a student at Grand Rapids Community College. Pitching for the District 9 Big League Softball Team, Krysten threw a no-hitter earlier this week, helping her team beat Wisconsin to move on to the Big League World Series. Nikita is a senior wrestler, and this summer she placed fourth at the Junior National Championships. At East she also plays field hockey and water polo. Brandon is a junior...he's had to overcome some personal challenges, and he's done it. He's a keeper on the soccer team, plays basketball, too, and carries a solid B+ average in classes. This week's Good GMC Truck Professional Grade Student Athlete of the Week Award goes to Lynzee Broussard from Catholic Central High School. Lynzee will be a junior this fall, she's a competitive figure skater who will head for regional competition this fall. During her sophomore year she piled-up 100 volunteer hours, including teaching youngsters how to skate. Hanna participated in tennis, golf and basketball-cheer and built a 3.5 grade point average. This week's Good GMC Truck Professional Grade Student Athlete of the Week Award goes to Brittini Merchant from Wayland High School. Brittini has graduated, but she led her softball team to the state championship game two straight years, winning one state title. And she was named Michigan's Miss Softball. This week's Good GMC Truck Professional Grade Student Athlete of the Week Award goes to Courtney Austin, a recent graduate of Grandville High School Courtney played basketball and participated in sideline cheer..she was captain and MVP this past season. Mary Angell of Byron Center High School won state championships in the discus and the shot put, while Forest Hills Northern High School's Josh Hembrough claimed titles in the 110 and the 300 hurdles and in the 1600 relay. They're Michigan's Miss and Mr. Track and Field respectively, and the state's Gatorade Track and Field Athletes of the Year. This week's Good GMC Truck Professional Grade Student Athlete of the Week Award goes to Corey Stamps from Godwin Heights High School. Corey is a sophomore...he placed in the top ten in the state in the 400 meter dash last weekend. He plays basketball and soccer, too, and has a 3.35 grand point average. This week's Good GMC Truck Professional Grade Student Athlete of the Week Award goes to Monica Kinney of West Catholic High School. Monica just finished her junior year, and finished second in the state in the 800 and in the 1600 relay. She plays soccer for the Falcons, too, and earns straight A's in the classroom. Katie is a junior, she's the defending state champ in the long jump and an all-conference cross country runner. She carries a 4.0 grade point average, too. Dirk is a junior and was named an All-District soccer player for the Wildcats. He's a member of their terrific marching band and carries a 3.8 grade point average. He's the City League cross country champion, and last week won the City League 800, the 3200 and anchored the title-winning 4x800 relay team. Mike carries a 3.6 grade point average, too, and participates in the Falcons band. Tyler is an All-State cross country runner for the RedHawks, he runs track and plays basketball, too. Headed for Grand Valley State, Tyler carries a 3.88 grade point average. This week's Good GMC Truck Professional Grade Student Athlete of the Week Award goes to Torsten Boss of Lowell High School. Torsten is just a sophomore, a pitcher for the Red Arrows, with a 5-0 record right now and a 0.41 earned run average. He's thrown two no-hitters this season and struck out 16 batters in one of his wins. At the plate Torsten hits .491, and in the classroom he carries a 3.4 grade point average. This week's Good GMC Truck Professional Grade Student Athlete of the Week Award goes to Karlee Despres of Comstock Park High School. Karlee is a junior pitcher on the Panthers softball team, with a 7-2 record right now, including two one-hitters and a no-hitter. She's batting .480, too. In class Karlee has a 3.86 grade point average, and she serves as junior class vice-president. This week's Good GMC Truck Professional Grade Student Athlete of the Week Award goes to Jon Cole of Cedar Springs High School. Jon is a junior and is 4-0 as a starting pitcher for a pretty good RedHawks team. He also plays second base and is batting .500 right now. His coach, Justin Glyshaw, tells us Jon is quarterback on the football team and carries a 3.3 grade point average. Congratulations to Jon Cole of Cedar Springs High School, our Good GMC Truck Professional Grade Student Athlete of the Week.
This week's Good GMC Truck Professional Grade Student Athlete of the Week Award goes to Mark Boman, talented swimmer at Forest Hills Central High School. Mark is a senior...he had two top-six finishes at the Division I state finals, and he owns two school records, in the individual medley and the backstroke.
In the classroom Mark carries a 3.9 grade point average and is a National Merit Semi-Finalist. Congratulations to Mark Boman of Forest Hills Central, our Good GMC Truck Professional Grade Student-Athlete of the Week.
Every Friday morning, West Michigan's Morning News co-host Steve Kelly will choose a Student Athlete of the Week and announce that week’s winner during his 7:15 sportscast. The award is presented to high school student athletes in the greater Grand Rapids area who possess any combination of overall athletic success, academic achievement, community involvement, and quality of character.
