Drunk driver sentenced in 2020 crash causing a miscarriage

A drunk driver who crashed head-on into a pregnant woman's car, killing her unborn set of twins, is being sentenced to a minimum of eight years in prison.

30-year-old Omarious Barns had had a blood alcohol content level more than twice the legal limit when the crashed occurred. An emergency C-section was performed on Kristen Merritt, who was 36 weeks pregnant at the time, but the twins did not survive.

Barns was charged with two counts of operating under the influence causing a miscarriage or stillbirth, a charge punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
