KCSO says teen hit by cruiser was accident, but result of criminal activity

The Kent County Sheriff's Office says a 17-year-old who was hit by a cruise was not hit on purpose.

The family of Riley Doggett says they want to see the video to see for themselves.

KCSO released a statement on Tuesday saying Riley Doggett was struck as "a direct result of the inherent risk of accompanying the serious criminal activity that Riley was engaged in during the weeks and months leading up to this incident."

The office previously said they attempted to pull over a stolen vehicle on April 8 and the vehicle ran off the road and crashed into a used car lot near 32nd Street and Division.

Doggett's family says he was the passenger in the stolen vehicle.

KCSO says MSP is still investigating the incident.
