GRAND RAPIDS (WOOD-AM) - The Urban League of West Michigan has received a $750,000 federal grant to build build a new youth center.

"Youth wanted a safe place, a place where they can get connected to job opportunities, education opportunities, in-school and out-of-school programming, in general, a safe place where they can have to talk to older adults and their peers," Chief Executive Eric Brown tells WOOD-TV.

Officials with the organization say they're hoping to open the new facility within the next two years.

The scope and scale of the project is still being determined.
