U.S. Army veteran dies after garage fire in Muskegon

MUSKEGON, Mich. -- The Muskegon Fire Department says the man who suffered burns to most of his body in a fire late Saturday night was a U.S. Army veteran and a father.

It says in a news release that 28-year-old Jace Baker was inside a garage on Bourdon Street in the Lakeside neighborhood when the fire broke out just before 11 o'clock. That is just west of McGraft Park.

Firefighters say Baker managed to get out of the garage and later was flown to a hospital in Grand Rapids, but died on Sunday.

Muskegon Fire investigators say the fire was accidental in original. Baker's family is requesting privacy during their time of grief.
