The Grand Rapids community joined the International Women's Day celebration with a march.
Men and Women gathered in Rosa Parks Circle wearing purple, a color that historically represents dignity and justice.
SowHope CEO Mary Dailey Brown says the day is to celebrate but also bring awareness to the plight of women, especially in third world countries.
A ceremony was also held to honor two Grand Rapids Women.
GVSU President Philomena Mantella was awarded the Cultural Achievement Award.
Radio producer Shelly Irwin received the Social Achievement Award.
