Suspect caught after chase spanning two counties

Officials say a suspect involved in a chase across two counties was finally caught.

The incident began in Walker on reports of a stolen motorcycle around 1:30 p.m.

Chief Keith Mankel says officers had a small struggle with the suspect and fired several rounds at him.

The suspect drove off and led a chase through Standale, where he ditched his car.

Mankel says the suspect left his car, swam through a river and stole a U-Haul from the Jenison/Georgetown area.

Officials say the suspect drove through yards, hit several vehicles and road signs and spilled items out of the U-Haul truck.

A deputy fired at the suspect and was able to arrest him.

The man is in stable condition at the hospital.

Both Ottawa County deputies and Walker officers fired at the suspect, however it is not clear who actually wounded the suspect.
