LANSING (WOOD-AM) - The State Board of Canvassers deadlocked along party lines yesterday on a ballot initiative that, if passed, would have put abortion rights in the Michigan constitution.

Republican chairperson Tony Daunt said he voted no because of errors in the petition language.

The canvassing board yesterday also deadlocked on an amendment that would have established early voting and other voting changes in the state. Both petitions had enough valid signatures.

Organizers will now have to mount a successful legal challenge to get their proposals on the November ballot.
