Fourth of July reminder: follow beach safety warnings

Officials are reminding beachgoers over the holiday weekend to pay attention to the beach flag warnings.

Grand Haven State Park closed its swimming area on Thursday morning due to dangerous water conditions.

The state park says they will keep an eye on conditions, however they aren't expecting them to be much better on Friday.

Andrew Lundborg, Grand Haven State Park supervisor, says this is the third time water access has been closed this summer due to conditions or rescues in progress.

Grand Haven Department of Public Safety Capt. Lee Adams says most people don't know the dangers of Lake Michigan.

Adams says if its a yellow or red flag day, do not go into the water.
