Kent County seeing triple catalytic converter thefts so far this year

Kent County is seeing a surge in catalytic converter thefts again this year.

The Kent County Sheriff's Office has investigated 108 cases of stolen catalytic converters so far this year, which is almost triple from the same time period last year.

A catalytic converter cleans pollutants from your car's exhaust and because of the special metals in the parts, they can be sold for hundreds of dollars.

Last year, the county saw a total of 242 thefts.
