Sea Lamprey numbers could increase in the Great Lakes

The U.S. and Canadian governments shut down their borders for 19 months which could lead to an increase in sea lamprey.

The parasitic fish is considered an invasive species.

Experts say while the population has been under control for the last few decades, they expect to see an increase in the coming years.

Marc Gaden, legislative liaison for the Great Lakes Fishery Commission, says some of the lamprey treatments can be performed by one person, however others require a team and were cancelled due to the pandemic.
