State of Michigan freezes 340,000 unemployment accounts over fraud

LANSING, Mich. (WOOD TV)— Labor department officials in Michigan said Friday they have frozen 340,000 unemployment benefit accounts over concerns of fraudulent impostor claims, though many are legitimate claimants who deserve the money.

Jeff Donofrio, director of the state Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity said, "People’s “economic lifeline is now tied up due to this criminal scheme. Our priority continues to be identifying and paying legitimate claims the benefits they need and deserve.”
