Coronavirus task force member Dr. Fauci set to testify before Senate today

The nation’s top infectious disease expert and a member of the White House coronavirus task force, Dr. Anthony Fauci, is planning to tell a Senate panel on Tuesday that there will be “needless” fatalities if the country reopens too soon amid the coronavirus pandemic. 

In an email to the NY Times, Dr. Faui wrote, “The major message that I wish to convey to the Senate [Health, Labor and Pensions] committee ... is the danger of trying to open the country prematurely."

Fauci added, “If we skip over the checkpoints in the guidelines to: ‘Open America Again,’ then we risk the danger of multiple outbreaks throughout the country. This will not only result in needless suffering and death, but would actually set us back on our quest to return to normal."
