GRCC professor in court for son’s manslaughter case

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The Grand Rapids Community College professor charged with manslaughter and child abuse in the drowning death of his 16-year-old son with special needs appeared in court Thursday.

Timothy Koets is charged withthe March 28 death of Sam Koetswho died in an icy outdoor pool.

In Hudsonville District Court, the prosecution showed photos of the teen and backyardpool with ice floating in itwhere he drowned.

The teen’s pediatrician testified that Sam Koets had the cognitive development of a child younger than 2-years-old.
