1 Grand Rapids passed an expanded human rights ordinance last night. Among other things it includes a rule prohibiting someone from calling 911 purely because of prejudice. If you do, you could face. $500 fine. 

The ordinance was unanimously approved and goes into effect December 1. 

2 GRPD Capt. Curt VanderKooi was suspended for two days. 

The Grand Rapids Police Command Officer’s Association Issuing a statement, “Captain VanderKooi is pleased to announce he has decided to postpone his original retirement date in 2020 and looks forward to serving the citizens and crime victims in the City of Grand Rapids as Commander of the Investigations Unit for an additional year."

3 The Gerald R. Ford International Airport is continuing to grow, saying it will announce details of a multimillion-dollar expansion and a new airline today.

The number of cities, counties, communities and tribal lands suing drug maker Purdue Pharma. The cases are being combined into a joint case in Ohio, and Purdue is offering between $10 and $12 billion dollars to settle. The talks follows this week'slandmark Johnson & Johnson ruling
