Boil water advisory in Kzoo after main break

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — A water main break has prompted a boil water advisory for part of a Kalamazoo neighborhood, including for a correctional facility.

The advisory issued Monday is for Fenimore Avenue between Dearborn and Charles avenues on both sides of the street, and at the southwest corner of Chicago Avenue and Kenilworth Avenue, including the Kalamazoo Probation Enhancement Program building.

The southwest and southeast corner of Fenimore and Dearborn is not included, nor is the northwest corner of Fenimore and Charles.

Everyone in the affected area should boil their water for two minutes before consuming it. It's safe to bath in the water without boiling it.

Water main breaks cause a drop in pressure, which can allow bacteria to enter the system. The boil water advisory is precautionary; no bacteria had been found in the system as of Monday.

Authorities say tests confirming the water's safety should be back soon, and they expect to life the advisory by Thursday.

There is also a boil water advisory in effect along Homecrest Avenue between Pasadena and Cameron streets in southeast Kalamazoo. That advisory, issued Sunday, is also the result of a water main break.
