Pastor's family: Investigators 'dropped the ball'

BYRON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (via WOOD TV 8) — The family of a retired pastor who was found shot dead on the side of the road says the Kent County Sheriff's Department didn't investigate the death properly.

"Don't make excuses," Dale Cross Sr.'s daughter, Tammy Blood, said. "Call it what it is. ... You dropped the ball."

On Aug. 6, Cross' body was found next to his SUV along 68th Street between Burlingame and Clyde Park avenues in Byron Township, south of Grand Rapids. Detectives initially called the case a suicide, but later classified it suspicious after an autopsy found Cross, who was right-handed, was shot in the upper left side of the head.
