Driver freed after fiery rollover crash on I-94

CHARLESTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Kalamazoo County authorities are investigating a rollover crash on I-94 that trapped someone inside their burning vehicle.

It happened around 6:10 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-94 near mile marker 89, east of S. 40th Street in Charleston Township, east of Galesburg.

Kalamazoo County sheriff’s deputies reached the crash first and put out the flames. The driver was trapped inside the wreckage, but eventually freed and taken to a nearby hospital with injuries.

The driver’s condition is unclear, as are the moments leading up to the crash.

The crash led to miles of backups on eastbound I-94, but the scene has since cleared.
