Developer to transform former GR church into apartments

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The Grand Rapids city commission has given developers the green light to transform a former Grand Rapids church into apartments.

The commission recently approved a brownfield amendment that would pave the way for the $2.6 million project at the former Saint James Lutheran Church, located at 445 Knapp Street NE.

The developer, 111 Halo LLC, plans to divide the 76-year-old building into five three-story apartments, creating loft bedrooms out of the upper part of the sanctuary and bedrooms in the current basement area.
