SOS prepared for long lines after driver fees eliminated

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — As more than 300,000 Michiganders have their driver responsibility fees eliminated Monday, the Secretary of State has added more staff to help keep lines moving.

The state eliminated the Driver Responsibility Law and no longer collects the fees as of Monday, Oct. 1. Now, more than 300,000 drivers will no longer have driver responsibility fee debt.

If your license was suspended because of the fees, you may be eligible to get it back starting today through Dec. 31 without having to pay a $125 reinstatement fee.
