Gas station robbery derailed by clerk with pepper spray

DALTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) —  Authorities believe the person who robbed a Muskegon County gas station ten days earlier returned to do it again Friday morning.

This time, though, detectives say the robber was thwarted by a clerk with pepper spray.

The Muskegon County Sheriff’s Office says the suspect walked into the Adventure EZ Mart at 3003 Whitehall Road in Dalton Township around 5:30 a.m. Friday.  Just like in the Sept. 11 crime, the robber implied he or she had a weapon and demanded cigarettes and cash. However, the clerk was ready: detectives say the employee pepper sprayed the suspect, who ran out the back door.

The Muskegon County Sheriff’s Office says the suspect was wearing a dark oversized zippered hooded sweatshirt, black pants and black shoes. The outfit is similar to what the suspect was wearing during the Sept. 11 robbery, in which they got away with cash and Marlboro Red cigarettes.

The suspect is approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall with a slim build. It’s unclear if the robber is a man or woman.
