Married couple found dead in home near Caledonia

BOWNE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Kent County detectives are investigating the suspicious deaths of a couple east of Caledonia.

Authorities confirmed the husband and wife were Theodore Syrek, who went by Ted, and his wife Patty. Both were in their 60s.

Around 11 a.m. Tuesday, the Syreks' child asked deputies to check on them at their home in the 900 block of Jordan River Drive SE — that's in the area of 100th Street and Morse Lake Avenue in Bowne Township.

Kent County Undersheriff Michelle LaJoye-Young said investigators found the pair dead inside the house.

It’s unclear what led to their deaths.

LaJoye-Young said she could not comment on whether there was any forced entry at the home or if anything had been stolen.

"That part of the investigation isn't complete," she said.

Neighbors told 24 Hour News 8 the couple had lived at the home for about 40 years. Neighbor Zach Austin said they were "snowbirds" who spent their winters in Arizona, where they have family.
