Weeks after ex-pastor's deadly shooting, witnesses sought

BYRON TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Investigators are searching for two people who may have stopped at the scene of a Byron Township shooting that killed a former pastor.

A passerby found the body of the 66-year-old Byron Center man in the 1400 block of 68th Street SW, between Burlingame and Clyde Parke avenues just before 6 p.m. on Aug. 6.

While authorities are not releasing the victim's name, the current pastor of Abundant Life Church identified him as Dale Cross Sr., who used to be the church pastor and remained a congregation member.

The sheriff's department said the witness who called 911 reported finding the man lying alongside the road next to his GMC Envoy. The caller said the SUV had a tire jack under it and it looked like the man had been working on it.
