Police: Grand Rapids standoff suspect in custody

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — An hourslong standoff on Grand Rapids' southeast side came to a peaceful conclusion Tuesday evening when a suspect gave himself up to police.

The name of the man was not immediately released, but police said they had previous interactions with him and had a warrant to arrest him for possession of stolen property.

The standoff started around 1:15 p.m. at a duplex in the 4300 block of Dawes Court SE, which is in the area of Plymouth Avenue and 44th Street.

Officers evacuated some nearby homes in the densely populated area. Other residents were asked to remain in a safe place inside their homes.
