Girlfriend of man shot by MSP: 'He needs help'

HASTINGS, Mich. (WOOD) — The girlfriend of the suspect who was shot by a Michigan State Trooper earlier this week is sharing her story with 24 Hour News 8.

A trooper shot Ryan Miller Monday night after police say he pulled out an airsoft gun when they stopped his car.

"We were meeting my mom at the church, and the cops ended up finding Ryan, finally,” said Ashley Cappon, Miller's girlfriend. “Yeah, it was bad."

Miller was wanted on outstanding warrants. Cappon said she was in the passenger's seat when a trooper stopped the car Miller was driving.

"He tried pulling us over, and Ryan didn't want to stop,” Cappon said. “I think he hesitated, he didn't really know what he wanted to do and he went around the cop, and the cop stopped us, and Ryan pulled the gun out."
