7 Injured in Head-On Crash in Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Seven people were hospitalized following a head-on crash on Grand Rapids’ north side Sunday evening, police say.

The crash happened just after 7 p.m. on Coit Avenue NE near Hubbard Street. The Grand Rapids Police Department says a northbound driver lost control, causing the vehicle to cross the centerline and collide with a southbound vehicle.

The at-fault driver was among the seven injured, police say.

The conditions of the people hurt were not immediately available, nor did police immediately release any information about their identities.

Police officers who remained on the scene nearly four hours after the crash happened said speed was a factor on the part of the northbound driver.

A photo from a witness shows a group of people praying at the scene, which is less than a block from a Baptist church.
