Laura Szczepanek, owner of a Polish catering business, says a downtown Polish heritage festival is a chance to enjoy food with a deep cultural background.

The annual Polish Harvest Festival runs this weekend in downtown Grand Rapids. Szczepanek said what's unique about the festival is the chance to experience food that has a strong foundation in Grand Rapids history.

"Because it's home-made, it's made with Polish love," she told WOOD Radio News.

Her business moniker says the food from That Polish Girl Catering is just like busia, or your Polish grandmother, used to make.

She said her and her crew have been preparing for this weekend's festival for about two weeks. She's third-generation Polish and uses that experience to bring pride to her work.

"Our home-made dill pickle soup is a huge hit," she adds.

Polish Heritage Festival runs Aug. 22 - Aug. 24 in Rosa Parks Circle.
