Replace The Plate Bill Moves to Senate
Posted Tuesday, October 15th 2013 @ 9am  by The Associated Press

Michigan lawmakers are moving to require that drivers replace license plates that are more than 10 years old.

Legislation being considered Tuesday in a state Senate committee would take effect in 2015. Starting then, motorists would have to pay $5 for a replacement plate if their license plate had been issued more than a decade earlier.

Supporters say the goal is ensuring all plates on the road are readable.

The bill also would require the state to study moving to a digital plate printing method.

The House passed the legislation 74-33 earlier this month.
