$995,000 will be coming to the Muskegon Heights Fire Department to offer 24 hour service to the community.

Senators Debbie Stabenow and Carl Levin announced the SAFER (Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response) grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency today. There was a competitive application process and recipients like Muskegon Heights have to demonstrate their need for first responders to assure the department's operational 24 hours a day.

Benton Township in southwest Michigan received a $225,496 award.
