A 65-year old Hastings man has been convicted of trying to arrange a hit on a female Barry County corrections officer in May of 2012, while he was serving time in the county jail.

A Barry County jury this week found Clayton Vur Adams guilty of Solicitation of Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm Less Than Murder after a three-day trial. The charge is a felony punishable by five years in prison and/or a $5,000 fine.

As an habitual offender, Adams' sentence could be "enhanced" with more prison time added to his term.

Prosecutors say a sentencing date for Adams would likely be scheduled for December.
