A civil-rights group is suing Huntington National Bank for abruptly closing the accounts of Arab-Americans.

The Dearborn-based Arab-American Civil Rights League filed the lawsuit in U.S. District Court Thursday alleging the bank abruptly closed the accounts of two Farmington Hills men and other Arab Americans, or customers "perceived to be of Middle Eastern descent" without explanation.

The group claims Huntington's Arab and Muslim customers of Middle Eastern descent are subject to greater scrutiny than the banks non-Muslim and non-Middle Eastern customers.

The class-action lawsuit seeks $75,000 in damages.

A spokesperson for Huntington National Bank said she could not comment on the lawsuit, but said the bank (quote) "appreciates the opportunity to do business within the Arab-American community in greater Detroit and all our other markets."
